Nissan Leaf Battery Upgrades
Two new battery options for degraded Leaf packs: 36kWh and 62kWh, built around current-generation cells at a lower price than the previous 52kWh upgrade.

Two NZ made battery upgrades for Nissan Leafs
There are thousands of Nissan Leafs in New Zealand with badly degraded batteries. The cars still drive fine, they're just stuck with a fraction of their original range.
The cell modules used in our original 52kWh upgrade have had a price increase, and being designed for the Europan OEMs will eventually be phased out. Rather than pass that cost on, we've moved to two new products built on current-generation cells: a 36kWh option and a 62kWh option, aimed at two different Leaf models but interchangeable between them. Both come in at a lower price per kWh than the previous 52kWh upgrade.
Both kits bolt and plug into the existing vehicle with no modifications required. The original Leaf BMS is retained with reflashed firmware to suit the new cells, so LeafSpy continues to work, CHAdeMO DC fast charging runs at full factory speed with all safety control parameters retained, and SOH, battery bars and charger cycles are reset. The AC onboard charger is unchanged.
Engineered to ECE R100 standard, the design resolves the issues common in informal Leaf upgrades: no CAN bridge, no chassis mounting spacers, and no rubber lid spacer. Mounting and electrical interfaces match the OEM design.
Local Manufacture
Built and supported in New Zealand
Every battery is assembled in-house, from cell testing and module fitment through to enclosure build and final electrical checks. That keeps quality control and warranty support in one place, rather than depending on an offshore supply chain for the finished product.
If something needs attention after install, you're dealing with the people who built the battery so support is local.

Pricing and Terms

36kWh
Including GST. Ex Works.
$6,000 deposit secures a build slot. Balance of $3,500 is due before the battery is dispatched.
62kWh
Including GST. Ex Works.
$10,000 deposit secures a build slot. Balance of $6,850 is due before the battery is dispatched.
Terms
- - Ex Works. Transport is arranged on a case-by-case basis depending on your location.
- - Includes trade-in of the old battery, expected to be returned ASAP. You're welcome to keep the old cells, but all other internal components must be returned.
- - 2-year or 80,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.
- - Warranty requires four LeafSpy reports at 6-month intervals so we can track battery performance.
Installation
Approved installer or DIY
Approved installers
We have a network of installers around the country who can handle the upgrade for you. They will assess the existing battery with LeafSpy before removal and confirm the new battery's status after install.
DIY install
If you'd prefer to install yourself, we provide a full work instruction. You will need LeafSpy and a compatible OBD scan tool to check the health of the old battery before removal and confirm the new battery's status after install.

Where we are
Phase 0: Validation
- Technical approach validated (existing BMS, LeafSpy compatible)
- Strategy locked: CHAdeMO retained, BMS reflash, no CCS2 upgrade for now
- Prototype vehicle sourced
Phase 1: 52kWh Prototype
- Battery and aluminium enclosure designed and fabricated
- First installation built and tested
- Prototype vehicle now at 8,000km with no issues

Phase 2: Pilot Production
- Seven successful installs completed
- Fifteen batteries in production
- WOF inspection passed with no issues
Phase 3: 36kWh and 62kWh
In progress- Moved off the 52kWh cell modules onto SVOLT 104Ah and CATL 177Ah cells to offer two options
- 36kWh option built into the original Leaf steel battery box to reduce cost
- 62kWh option built into a lightened aluminium box (steel components upgraded to aluminium)
- Pricing set at $9,500 and $16,850 incl GST, both lower per kWh than the previous 52kWh price
- ZE1 Gen 2 model support confirmed, coming in the next few months
- Building stock so future orders ship without freight wait
